Cool weather cycling can be quite enjoyable if you have the proper clothing. It is not just about having warm clothing, but versatile clothing that you can layer—and the Pearl Izumi Select Thermal Jersey is one of the most versatile pieces of clothing you can own. You can wear this jersey by itself in temperatures down to the mid 40’s, or add a thin thermal base layer and/or vest for even colder weather.
The Pearl Izumi Select Thermal Jersey is made of 100% polyester and is extremely comfortable to wear. This fabric has wonderful moisture transfer to keep you dry and a full-length zipper to aid in venting. The zipper has a “garage” at the top so you won’t cut your neck on the zipper, along with an inner flap behind the zipper to block the wind.
On the back of the jersey you will find three roomy pockets, along with a “hidden sweat-proof pocket.” The hidden pocket is very small and is located inside the right-hand pocket. It is actually only large enough to carry
a keychain fob or a credit card or two. There are also several reflective elements to make you visible at night—one long strip of reflective piping that goes across the pockets and three reflective logos.
The sleeves on this jersey are absolutely perfect—just enough material on top of the wrists to keep you warm, and a little less on the bottom of the wrists to keep the material from bunching up.
This product is available is six colors: Screaming Yellow, Safety Orange, Black, White, True Blue, True Red. These color choices are not solid colors—all of the jerseys have a bit of either black or white fabric for contrast. I bought the Black jersey since I wear it only for off-road use. If you are going to wear this jersey on the road I would highly recommend the Screaming Yellow, Safety Orange or Red. This fleece jersey is available in five sizes (S, M, L, XL, and XXL). This item has a “semi-form fit” and is true to size.
The Pearl Izumi Select Thermal Jersey has an MSRP of $100. If your local bike shop does not carry this product you should look for it on Amazon.com (prices vary depending on size and color). Pearl Izumi also makes this jacket in a style for women (with different sizing and color combinations).

Thank you so much for the kind note! Do you ride all winter long? If so, I’ve got some great gear to review in the coming weeks. Ride safely!

Do you have recommendations for waterproof cycling jackets?

Showers Pass makes the best jackets for rainy weather. Their Touring Jacket is great (but not cheap). I posted a review of it at:

Thank you!! I’ll look for this jacket in a W’s version and see if the optional hood works, too!

I have the optional hood and it fits over my helmet fine — not exactly aerodynamic, but it keeps you dry.
